It's not often you can get a running and driving car for $100 these days. Today I did just that tho with this 2006 Volvo s40 with 177xxxk miles. Yes I got the title. It's AWD. I did have to spend almost $200 on a new battery right away and the brake pads and rotors are pretty rough all the way around and it's due for an oil change and regular maintenance it says but the main issue is the coolant leak, which is the head gasket letting it in the exhaust I think. It starts right up and purrs like a kitten tho and I took it on a drive after trailering it 35 minutes home. Interior needs to be put back together a little bit. I think I'm going to resell or trade it as is.1000011457.jpg1000011456.jpg1000011454.jpg1000011455.jpg

It's not often you can get a running and driving car for $100 these days.................Yes I got the title. ...................

Well a few things......
#1. Have you confirmed the precence of a VIN plate?
#2 If you have then done that, have you matched the VIN on the title to the VIN plate on the car?
#3 I assume you bought it on Saturday after the DMV was closed. First thing Monday morning CALL THE DMV and have them run a VIN and title check. Yes they will do it and they will do it over the phone.
#4 I assume the title is a Wisconsin title. Are you aware of how prior salvage vehicles are notated on a Wisconsin title?
#5 You already spent $200 on a battery.....that was a mistake. Always do your homework first. If you were too impatient then you should have pulled a battery out of another vehicle. I had hoped you learned a lesson on the motorcycle title issue and on the amount of money you spent on batteries for the first 7.3L fiasco.

I am not trying to be critical.... I am just trying to be realistic. The reality is I smell something and it ain't roses!

Get some K Seal to try to fix the leak
It’s Roadkill approved

If the title checks out then in this area it would be a great 4 banger "sport mod" stock car. About 25 years ago I bought a old Ford Escort GT for $100 with a water pump that spewed water like ole loose cow spews manure. I put it in the trailer and brought it home figuring I would fix it. It sat for years untouched like many of my projects. One Saturday morning I was driving by a small town shop and some young guys were working on their sport mod Escort. I stopped and asked them if they wanted another for $250.. They said yes and showed up later. I robbed a good battery out of something else and by gosh the ole Escort fired up. It stunk from the stale gas but I drove it on their trailer and took the battery back out.

I also see you have a "free boat".......same thing....did you get a title and registration for either the boat or the trailer?

Logan I really admire your determination but man you need to think some of these things through a bit more.

Gross weight of 3000lbs or under for trailer and boat or just trailer doesn't not require registration in WI and therefore may not have a title unless meeting those requirements.
Boats require registration with the DNR but only if powered by a gas engine. Paddle boats, boats using oars or electric trolling motors don't require registration with the DNR.

Pretty sure Vovlo used an inline 5 cylinder.

Valid points, but I already sold the car for $500. Batteries aren't a total waste of money, always nice to have on hand with all my families projects, gonna need the original 7.3 ones for a 7.3 idi at my grandparents farm soon.

Well I will trust you on Wisconsin law but in Illinois, Iowa and every other state that I know of unless the trailed item is farm or considered a piece of trailed equipment such as a chipper we need a plate. As for the boat here if it is not powered you are OK but I sure do not see oars and I do see an outboard.

I am glad you dumped it but yes you do need to think things through. Trust me it will bite you in the ass eventually.

Great job on the quick flip
Easy money is always nice
I was in the big smoke with an empty trailer years ago. Free cars in the classifieds.
Went there and he had 3 I had a new battery with me as I had picked up a parts order.
There was a Lumina that was in good shape fired up with the new battery drove it on my trailer.
Came home and sold it on my trailer for $500 without the battery

Ugh, Volvo and Saab are two vehicle makers that I fail to understand the appeal of outside their home market. Driving one of those things just screams "I hate my life." I will admit that I respect the old RWD square body Volvos like the 240. Those things were as tough and unstoppable as they were ugly, the automotive equivalent of a zombie cockroach.
