I don’t port saws. I run them, fix ‘em, and run them some more. I got this 064 cylinder on eBay thinking it’d be a spare. But... found this when I opened it today-

Looks like someone opened up the cylinder bolt holes as well. Maybe to put on an 066/660 case??

So... paperweight or project?

Not sure. They’re not epoxied but that’s what I was wondering at first.

The area around the ports has been ground away. There’s no plating there and it indents a bit into the cylinder walls.

The seller is offering a refund. I may just take him up on it since this thing isn’t what was listed.

Wow that’s bizarre. At least the seller is making it right, still sucks to see a cylinder like that ruined.
Depending on port timing and port shape/size, it might be a great cylinder to have replated.
Cant get these new anymore ................

Thought the same thing but not sure if the grinding on the cylinder wall would make replating a no go.
I've been able to spin cylinders with bad port timing and get them useable again, if port timing got carried away.

If port width got too far, its junk

Replating cylinders requires the old plating to be cut out and sometimes the bore trued, then replated. Best to send it to the experts that plate cylinders to be sure if that grinding will be the death of it

Plating is just friction. Everybody knows that.
Lol. Did JMS hack your phone??

Honestly the replating idea did briefly cross my mind. I think it’s a bit too far into the casting but I am no expert.

I wonder what the guy’s intentions were?

If I do return this it better not show back up on eBay. I’d post the seller info here if it did.

I have four 064s all built by me. My greedy ass wanted a spare for a spare so I put out an offer on that listing. No pics of the bore (dumb), listed as “good” (rarely are), and below $50 (too good to be true). Oh well...

I inquired about where it came from haha. The guy bought it for the cases and parted out everything else. He definitely knew that cylinder was shot so he put it on eBay hoping no one would realize how fubar-d it was.
