Just got my 044 up and running good, but this saw is louder than a muffler-less Harley Davidson!:motorino:

Previous owner gutted it out and drilled a huge hole.
It was so loud the shop owners came to have a look see at whether someone had built a "Race Saw" beneath their nose's!
Whatever!
Anybody got a decent 044 Muffler they can spare/sell?
How interchangeable are the aftermarket dual ports with 1128 140 0604 OEM?
Is there that much difference?

I gotta a ton of wood to cut and need this saw rolling NOW!

Don't be shy!
Put new screens on it and get cutting. That hole on the side looks about right for pre epa mufflers for that model which came from the factory that way.
LOL!
It's 2 Freakin loud though Jim!:ambulance:
You mean weld em on there or use JB Weld?

Your face plate is missing more than the screen. Then there should be a slot on the side for a screen. They may act as enough of a baffle to tone it down a tad bit. 20170204_015419.jpg 20170204_015655.jpg

I have not seen an 044 muffler with a baffle and single or dual port will both be loud
It will be loud no matter what you do to it.

Get a battery saw or ear plugs.
All my saws are really loud and I wear hearing protection

Not sure if there is an aftermarket muffler out there with a baffle in it?

@Definitive Dave may be able to help with info on that one

There's generally no internal baffle.

I have an OEM fully enclosed front cover if you need one.

Most of the guys here don't know how to make a muffler breath less. Kinda blasphemous.

Like Jim said, if you add screens it will quiet it down. I'm not sure why you just don't use hearing protection though. My saws have literally 8 times the surface area of outlet yo have there. You can also weld in your own internal baffles if you want to.

Believe it or not I've actually had saws run quieter and sound better just by changing or modifying the carb. And I'm talking about painful ear bleeding deafening loud to actually tolerable without hearing protection.

You have several options. That side hole does look opened up a bit, and that missing screw hole straight away will also add to the noise.

MS 460 mufflers have baffles, and will bolt right on, but 044/440s did not come with them.

An AM muffler with screens and a somewhat smaller side hole should do just fine for you, and quite it down some, but I like em kinda loud, they run better.

If you order a AM muff from within the states, it should come pretty quick. From China generally takes 2-3 weeks.

046/460/461 mufflers will all interchange with the 044/440.
