I'm getting ready to start on an 026 and have a couple of cylinders to chose from, one is a Stihl cylinder and the other is a Mahle, from a performance standpoint is one better than the other? The first two pics are of the Stihl cylinder and the second two are of the Mahle.

I don't think there's much difference between those two jugs.
Thanks, I was thinking maybe the Mahle would be better with the thicker base, wouldn't be as thin after cutting, but wanted to make sure one didn't out perform the other.

Oh if your machining I'd go with the thicker base or check numbers on both?

Whichever has a lower exhaust port or thicker base. I'd time them.

I'm going to time them tomorrow. I noticed that they have different combustion chamber shapes and I was thinking that one may have better transfer tunnel shape giving it an edge over the other.

I measured from the squish band to the roof of the exhaust post and they are about the same, the Stihl one is .006 lower.

Top is a K$, if I am not mistaken. Look at the base. It’s a shiny alloy.

Timing about the same, but the Mahle is easier to machine and grind.

I kinda like the Mahle better.

Both great for builds.

I started cleaning up the transfer on the Male cylinder and it has some small grooves so I'll finish cleaning it up and use it to practice on.

Sometimes HLS has 026 cylinders for <$20ea, good for practice and experimenting to see what works best before porting the good ones.
I ordered an aftermarket cylinder to practice on off ebay, $21.50 shipped, but it won't be delivered until next week.

One I ordered
