STIHL 025 runs like a top and dies.

I received this saw from my Mom's husband. When I got it, it would not idle. I replaced the carburetor, impulse line, fuel line, fuel filter ,air filter and spark plug. Now it starts, idles and revs to 12,ooo rpm (+ or -) but dies upon releasing the trigger. Am I missing something in the carb set up or should I be looking elsewhere? I've note the tank vent sometimes "vents" when the saw is run for extended periods of time. Any suggestions?

Check the spark screen. How's your ability to do a press/vaccuum test?

There is no screen on the muffler outlet. I don’t have a pressure gauge to do the testing. I’ m thinking I should be looking into more diagnostic tools - I have a “fleet” of yard equipment that are aging and the idea of just sending them to the land fill frustrates beyond comprehension. Can anyone recommend a leak down gauge that I could use on 2 stroke engines?

Give it the old brake cleaner trick. With it running spray brake cleaner near the clutch and flywheel. If it dies immediately you’ve got seals out. More often than not I see the clutch side go first.
