Passwords and Two Step Authentication

MANDATORY Website Policy - FORCED ON EVERYONE AFTER FEBRUARY 2023

REALLY STRONG PASSWORD REQUIREMENT

OPEforum demands a really strong password requirement for all user accounts.

EVERYONE should revisit their password field NOW. Make your pwd long and random with smalls, caps, numbers, symbols.

While you're there, verify that your email is still your email, and not some hacker's.

DO NOT use the same password that you use anywhere else. There are compromised email & pwd combinations available to hackers on the Interwebs. They'll check your email addy in the database of hacked accounts, and if yours is in there they'll see what passwords you've used and count on you using the same password over again. Don't do it. If you have a simple or a same password in multiple places, go change it now before someone smarter than you gets it.

TWO STEP VERIFICATION

It is advisable that we each enable Two-Step Verification for future secure logging in.

OPEforum has three options for your Two-Step Verification:

1) Verification Code via Authy (if you have it on your phone, it may be the simplest).

2) Verification Code via App (PREFERRED).

3) Email Confirmation (less secure especially if your account is already compromised and had its email address changed by the hacker). Scroll to bottom of this page to see how to do this.

To begin, go to Password & security under your username icon in the top right of the site.

Click the Change button where it says Two-step verification: Disabled.

AFTER you click that Change button, you'll have to put in your password to access the change.
Once there, you can choose one of 3 methods of verification.
