Correct ! The key word here is modify! A 288xp cover will have the brake flag waaaay too close to the handlebar!

Nope , A 288xp won’t fit. U need a chainbrake assembly from a 1100,2100,298 or a 380 and you also need the clutch drum size 84 or 88mm...

And it IS just an aftermarket 288 cover that you could just go and find on eBay.
