Awesome engine, nasty to work on. A buddy and I changed head gaskets in his. It took 3 full weekends. A dealer offered us a great deal to repair 2 more. We turned them down. If I can remember right, just the parts was 700.00 15 years ago.

    Winter's over.

We got 10" of heavy, wet snow. We didn't have to go anywhere and nobody was stopping. I left it alone because the driveway is soft. This morning the driveway is almost clear.

A lot of people cutting firewood and pulp with 290, 310 and 390 around here. They do the job.

    What's on your bench?

Yes. Get him to teach you. A retired welding inspector, from a large manufacturing company, taught me more in 5 minutes than high school did in 9 weeks. He would give me some pieces to weld together. He would break them apart and tell me how it failed, then tell me how to fix it. He told me not...

Can’t find exact correct carb for Sabre Briggs, help?

If the engine is a Briggs, the model and spec number is on the valve cover. If the valve cover is blank, perhaps it was installed upside down after servicing the valves. Check to see if the letters ohv on the front of the cover are right side up.

    What's on your bench?

I finished my wife's work bench today. What's on her bench? A small sampling of valor quilts that she has been involved with making.

    Somebody Owes Me Some Money

I use Timber Savage files. They seem to last as long as the old swiss files.

Can’t find exact correct carb for Sabre Briggs, help?

Google the engine model number that is on the valve cover. There are replacement carbs listed by engine number.

Just google the briggs name and the number in your post. A whole bunch of them come up.

    What's on your bench?

Building a work bench for my wife for her quilting projects. She likes the rustic look of white cedar and her orders were 33" height and some custom sized drawers. The dumb arse carpenter failed in his siphoring and made the drawer rails 1/8" too proud. I had to learn all about hand planes...

    Log Wizard/ bar-mounted debarker questions

2 guys with mills out here, have log wizards and don't use them. Takes too much time they say. They just use old saws with old chains to slice the dirty bark off.

    Grease Monkey Garage

I had used a product from Europe called waxoyl on our Chrysler van and my Jeep WJ. It held up very well and the only rust issues were the rockers. The engineers decided, to cut down on road noise, they filled the rockers with foam. It does a wonderful job at deadening sound......and retaining...
