What is the purpose of the inner baffle on the Stihl two piece mufflers? Most everyone cuts them off. Is it just a noise reduction or increase back pressure.

Decided to pull the muffler over the weekend.

That's what I thought but wanted a confirmation. With a 24" chain it was up to about 11.5k. I can verify tonight. The hole I put it the muffler was up by the chain brake at the corner. I didn't remove anything from the inside.

Is no load, no chain or chain and free spin in air?

But that should allow it to pull 13k though. I can't understand why it's not.

Yeah I put a drop of jb weld on it. Only other mod I have is drilling out the muffler at the corner.

Anything I can do to resolve the chain brake not engaging after the saw has been working for a bit?

So a 590 should pull 13k rpms? I can get mine past 11k. Leaning it out just causes the rpms to drop.

So one thing I have noticed about this thing is the growl the muffler has at idle. It's different than a lot of the other saws I have, even the dual ports. This thing only has a single port on it.

So I'm having trouble adjusting the low speed on this thing. I got the high speed set but low is giving me problems. I pulled the caps and set the low to 1.5 turns. On first startup it was obviously lean so I had to back it out about 1 turn to get the chain from spinning. Then I got the idle...

Do they have a limiter on them? I would rather not try and find it by other means ......
