Looks like Honda still has a serviceable blower housing. Depending on your skills you can remove just the blower housing section to clean it out and get the recirc door back where it's supposed to be.

What year CRV? Most hondas build their HVAC boxes in sub assemblies for easy servicing. Depending on the year you can have that entire blower housing out in under an hour.

Fuel spitback? I've had a few 10 series do that. Unless it's running out the bolt under the throttle arm onto the exhaust, I never worried about it.
