HELP! Stihl 076 AV Super- Bogs and Dies When Hot

Yeah Al. I do want to keep it original if it’s easy and somewhat cheap to do so. Up until now, aside from rebuilding the oil pump assembly, this thing was the best running, 100% on point machine I’ve ever owned. It runs the same no matter the weather, how long it sits, whatever. It just starts...

HELP! Stihl 076 AV Super- Bogs and Dies When Hot

Oh and this thing seems to have a nice combination of torx (or are they Allen) and slotted. I do think I recall the case screws being flat slotted. I agree on replacing them. Is there a torque spec for these or am I going German style nizentite.

HELP! Stihl 076 AV Super- Bogs and Dies When Hot

Ok thanks guys. It did blue smoke a bit the morning I started it up after it sat all night inside my cold truck. I didn’t know if that was just a bit of normal start up with 40:1 or if bar oil is getting into the crank case. I may just have a multi faceted cluster F of a problem. Thank you for...

HELP! Stihl 076 AV Super- Bogs and Dies When Hot

I just read a thread that mentioned a control valve on the carburetor (I believe) that can stick and cause the governing issues. But what about the white smoke and burning plastic smell coming from the flywheel area? Someone suggested plugging this port with a piece of aluminum and others...

HELP! Stihl 076 AV Super- Bogs and Dies When Hot

When I pulled the plug it was dripping wet. I think it’s actually the opposite. I don’t think it’s a lack of fuel to burn I think the module or coil is bad and not igniting the fuel. When it idles it does ok, when you touch the throttle it wants to die right out and mostly does. I will, however...

HELP! Stihl 076 AV Super- Bogs and Dies When Hot

Hey guys. I have an 076 AV Super that has been a fantastic saw the last couple of years. I use it primarily for milling but it gets used for really big firewood stuff now and then. I was finishing up a job today so last night I did the usual prep, sharpened the chain, etc and it ran fine. I only...

What are you building with your milled wood?

Yeah I think I’ll give it a shot. I was a little bummed that the one spot was so punky. I basically removed it by hand. Rest of it is solid. I just read through a lot of this thread going back 5 years ago lol. It’s great to see all the suggestions for filling cracks and finish recommendations...

What are you building with your milled wood?

Hey guys. Very new to the milling game and I’d like to ask your opinions. I have this 36-40” white oak that’s been laying around for me to get to it. I finally cut a disc off of it for a possible top. It was too big for my 30” granberg rails and 36” bar so I did it by hand. Just take a look at...

MS460 Magnum- Hard Starting After Storage

Thank you all! Hopefully I get a few hours soon to take a look at it. Not much down time this winter… heating with an OWB and it’s been the coldest winter since I put it in. Lotsa wood

    MS460/MaxFlow

Late to the game, but I’d like to add another thumbs up for the max flo. They definitely seal and filter well. No more tapping out the filter every fuel up. Definitely best to have two or three filters to rotate. Makes maintenance a snap. I was using k&n cleaner to clean until I realized (or so...

MS460 Magnum- Hard Starting After Storage

While we’re at it, I’m fairly new to saw repair and every repair is a learning experience for me. How does one perform such vacuum check?

MS460 Magnum- Hard Starting After Storage

Thank you. That’s what I was thinking and makes perfect sense. It feels like the saw loses prime after sitting and has a hard time sucking fuel. After running a while and seemingly running fine, I get a rare blip in acceleration much like the sensation felt when it’s actually running dry. I will...

MS460 Magnum- Hard Starting After Storage

I have an early 2000’s MS 460 Magnum with factory .68 main jet. Has opened up exhaust and running max flo filter. Rebuilt the carb with a factory Walbro kit. After the saw sits for a month or two, I have to pull it a good 8-10 times before it pops over on full choke. I believe I have it tuned...

Getting started - Best chain to use?

I don’t have nearly the experience some on here have, and can’t speak for granberg chain. I have been using the woodland pro chain off the Bailey’s site. It’s a bit more cost effective and I’ve had good luck with it. I did two black walnut logs and got half way through a red oak before the...

Milling a Beautiful Black Walnut- Suggestions

Thank you for the info! I was already thinking of doing 8/4 and 5/4 so what you said makes a lot of sense. I think I’ll do a log of each and leave the rest for anything else someone might want.
