I don't have much experience with finishing big slabs in a live edge condition.....Matt has done more of that than I.
I have worked with big slabs cutting em down into smaller pieces..... and yeah, expect movement......sometimes lots of it, it all depends on the species, tree, and individual...
I really don't know.......to me it's just a "barbecue"........but that's what I call anything black that's used for outdoor cooking.
I paid a whopping $32 for it, so no big deal regardless what it's sposta be, I just figured it was probably worth more than that so I bought it to flip.
Also picked up two thickness planer / molders, a 12" craftsman and an 18" woodmaster.
Plus a wheelbarrow load of small stuff.
And, a 6' misery whip to hang on the wall.
Should the smoker (or whatever it is) have no floor?.........

Tom finished the fender project yesterday...... pretty much impervious to anything, (I would even loan it to Thomas @Hinerman )
1/8" tread plate with lots of reinforcement.
He even added stake pockets...
