Mean Green does contain sodium hydroxide, that's why it works so well. The directions say not to use on aluminum but I soak flywheels... -
This is different than what you used then. The simple green HD doesn’t touch aluminum.

They still blow insulation in, in a similar way -

I just use this undiluted on a cue tip. The aluminum transfer foams up, the plating doesn’t.
