In my personal experience, it's more likely to be the coil that goes bad vs the transformer. It's low tech, but you can test the coil by lightly wetting two fingers and holding one on each contact point on the transformer mount. Then pull the saw over (with the plug out of course) and you'll...
I'd replace it. Minor upward flexibility is normal, but that cracked surface tells the tale. If you don't replace it now, you will end up needing to very soon.
