I talked to a McCulloch dealer in New York years ago about tricky air leaks,(rip Bob). He told me one was giving him fits so he lit up a fat cigar and blocked the exhaust and blew thick smoke down the carb, I believe he used play-do to seal it . Anyway he found a casting void in the case...

As far as building a saw ,I have a 394xp in great condition and it's a fun saw to run! I've never sweated the plastic parts for a cheap build . Crank,cylinder, carb,piston, and case if salvagable ! I've built 2 066's out of scrap yards and they have aftermarket parts like covers,recoils,and fuel...

Funny but I recently dropped a saw while cleaning it and whacked the back of my hand with the chain, consequently wearing a bandage for a week!

Change over the muffler to an 850 or SP81 . Or mod it.

obviously that pocket is for a carb nut.

It does appear that the air filter does have pockets for nuts?

Playing around with a Bow bar, Thanks to Mark H. .404 .050 chipper chain. Mark got me an 85Dl of this a few years ago, I had to shorten it to 78Dl . Had some issues with the oiler. It's a 57cc .
