I've had all kinds of recoil starters break on me! I will say we had a newer 572xp in class and when it broke the tiny metal pin flew onto the flywheel magnet and jammed in the coil! Luckily I heard it and yelled to the young guy to STOP PULLING! and we fixed it. That could be an expensive fail.

Sounds like one of the clutch spings might be wore out or broke and the clutch bearing smoked.

Possibly, I was running mine like a rented mule ! When I first got it. But it was definitely stronger than my 500i right of the bat. The 500i got a muffler mod pretty directly.

I have a poulan 2700 with a 346xp top end that runs pretty well . I wouldn't necessarily want it to be bigger, but maybe something stronger.
