Some of this inflation stuff takes time to sort out. They might not run batches of that oil every day, so incremental cost increases are not realized until it's time to run a new batch, and then they have to jump up the price.
Another vote here for Mittyvac 8500 over any of the cheap ones on the jungle website. I had a cheap one that lasted a couple months at most. My Mittyvac was used off of ebay, and it's still going strong several years later.
That was a heck of a good price. One is on the way.
Might as well make a minor rebuild out of it, since this is my go-to saw most of the time. New AV springs, and a few other goodies on the way as well. I might even play around and clean up the chipped cylinder anyway, and stuff an HL supply...
Bad news guys. The ring caught the top of the exhaust port during the carnage, and took a large chunk out, so I think this OEM red top cylinder has had it. P&V test passed at least, so on to cleaning and getting a new top end on the way.
I already cleaned the transfer off this cylinder and rebuilt with a new piston (several years ago) when I bought it as a basket case. I'm afraid the plating is going to get thin if I clean it up too many times. I suspect that tuning is to blame for this one. I didn't adjust the saw today, and...
Dangit. I was cutting some wood with my 7900 on my lunch break and my saw shut off mid cut. I ran back to the house and pulled it down quick just to find out it's scored on the exhaust side. Time to vac / pressure test and see why, but who has the best deal on an OEM P&C kit? I would like to...
As far as I know, the hydraulic pump wasn't among the changes from maroon belly to black belly, but it could have been. The 7000 has always been the odd duck of the 7000 series anyway - it's really a prettied-up 200 at its core, and the 7010-7080 are completely different.
We have a red belly 7000, and we had to rebuild the hydro pump last year. I want to say the parts were like $200-250 for the rebuild kit? I didn't think it was too bad.
The whole thing might be a different story, though.
I don't have a lot of 'hands-on' with an old CAT like you're looking at, but I have watched some youtube videos of a fella who rescues old iron like that, and he showed the process of freeing up a stuck injector rack, along with other things:
Diesel Creek
32:1 for sure, I wouldn't have it any other way!
(Which drives my brother nuts - he believes the local Stihler, who told him that too much oil is bad for his saw, and to only run Stihl Ultra at 50:1 because it's the only good oil...)
I'm almost to the end of my jug of ipone sled oil. Time to buy more, but I can't get it in the US anymore. The local carquest sells Shaeffer's. Which one is the good one, and how does it rate on the stink factor?
I like to keep bear grease around for when I start fresh on a skillet, but daily sausage/bacon cooking maintains seasoning real nice once you get them how you want them.
