Pop-ups can increase secondary compression, but they can also disrupt scavenging. I think they are unnecessary.

The pre-mark II 562 ran a flat-top piston that is 46mm. There are some aftermarket pop-up pistons, but I wouldn't recommend them.

My 10-10 is the only saw that physically hurts my ears...and that is at idle.
