Yes, an iterative solution back and forth works well also.
What I was pointing out was that I never paid much attention to the location of the idle screw before. Now when finished tuning I try to have it just touching the butterfly cam or lever, then screwed a hair inward clockwise.
As I stated, the IPL on both saws quote the same OEM felling dogs. The dogs I make are slightly different shape, however. Mine fit the 500. I am going to need to actually put them onto a 462 to know for sure.

The titanium products have a strange name... I think it rhymes with "Ti-DAWGS", or something like that.

I'd bet the dogs would fit a 462 but I can't say until I get a real saw to try it on.
Photos look real similar in the location called into question for the inner dog.
400 a sure no-go for the inner dog, though the outer will fit the clutch cover, so that doesn't seem a good option.
The case on the 400 where the inner dog bolts is much different than 500i.
