    33RSK

Sounds like some are partial to the RSK. Is it the factory grind that you like, or something about the cutter that clears chips? If you put your own grind on an RS and RSK, would you expect a difference in performance?

    Duke's saw chain

Got it @cookies. Have you tried the other Duke's variety? Any comments on the difference? Just raker/cutter geometry? Same steel characteristics? I put screenshots of both below

    Duke's saw chain

This is the first I’ve seen of the "Blue Label" chain. Based on the pictures on the website, the rakers look a little different, not sure about the cutters. Has anyone tried it? I have a few loops of Duke's chain that were square ground on a Simington. It cuts great, but the faller who did it...

HELP! Anyone use CBN wheels for grinding chain?

I haven't seen anyone mention the UF-Sharp 80 grit wheels sold on Amazon. I bought a 1/8" wheel for grinding .325 chain on my Super Jolly. I really like it and I'm going to buy another in 3/16". It cuts quickly, tooth stays cool, and it's very precise. Prior to this, green Tecomec wheels were my...

    Are these still available?

Porting an 045 Super for a Longer Bar?

Thanks @NateSaw and @drf256. I'll look for a piston available from Meteor that I can work with. When I tear this saw back apart I'll post better pictures of the squish band, combustion chamber, what I try, and how it works. The picture below shows the cylinder when I initially pulled it off...

Porting an 045 Super for a Longer Bar?

If I can't find a factory 045/056 piston, do either of you have experience with the 54mm Husky 385 piston? I read on another forum that it's .795" from top of wrist pin to top of piston. The OEM slug from my 045 is about .735" to top of dome. I'd have to modify the 385 piston, but there might be...

Porting an 045 Super for a Longer Bar?

My post with the 044 video was not clear. I don’t expect the two saws to perform the same. The power curves are/will be very different, but I’m hoping the 87cc 045 will produce more horsepower than the 044. I’d anticipate the 045 peak at lower RPM. These saws do/will behave very differently...

Porting an 045 Super for a Longer Bar?

Thanks for weighing in! I was hoping I’d hear from the Doctor. Your points make sense. What are the implications here? Does increased transfer duration ease this limitation? Awesome feedback, just the kind of thoughts I was looking for. You may not be an 045/056 expert, but you’ve been into a...

Porting an 045 Super for a Longer Bar?

Fair points, but it's hard for me to settle when my 10mm 044 pulls as hard, cuts at higher RPM, and is 15 cc smaller!

Porting an 045 Super for a Longer Bar?

Good points. Thanks! What's too thin on the base flange? I think this flange was around .220" (at the thinner ends) from the factory, so it’s ~.200 now. The top of the flange is not square, so measurements are approximate. I'll check ring gap. I bought Cabers, but I did not check the ring gap...

550 XP Mark II or MS 261

I wouldn’t worry about the reset. Probably not necessary for your new saw, but also not the end of the world if you did it. Just avoid UNLOADED WOT during break in. You can go full throttle when you’re in the wood. Have fun with your new saw!

Porting an 045 Super for a Longer Bar?

Here's a video of the saw running a 36" Full Skip Oregon EXJ in a 27" Ponderosa. It's tuned a little lean in this video, but it gets the point across. I think I'll be able to push this saw a little harder once I get it right. You can hear it bog a couple times, and there's not much pressure...
