I used to run the Fiskars X7 for kindling, which is 14", and I was always choking up on it. Which is why I landed on 12".

That's all I'll use it for. Most always sitting in a chair splitting softwood on top of a ~10" round.

In my opinion, if it's strictly a kindling splitter, I'd go with 12". Keep things nice and short.
