Washed parts with hot water and dish soap to get rid of oil and grime, blasted with aluminum silicate, prepped crack with clean carbide burr, washed again with ultrasonic and finally with acetone before welding. After each welding pass brushed seams with new stainless brush. For welding I used...
Here's my 300 BlackOut platform. Well, not this exact gun but very similar to this, no pics of that specific gun on my phone.
10.5" barrel, pistol length gas system, LMT telestock, flat top upper, NightForce scope, LaRue QD mount and all that jazz.
I prepared cases in blasting cabinet with aluminum silicate, then put them in ultrasonic cleaner for half an hour, dishwashing liquid and hot water. Final rinse with acetone just before welding. All I need is right filler rod and amps.
Similar problem here. Bought pile of parts and there was 357XPG carcass with both case halves cracked. Flywheel side is easy one, but clutch side is bit challenging, crack goes to front bar stud. It sure isn't worth welding but I really want to try. I would appreciate if someone could give rough...
Well, thank you comparing me to Ol’ Pot Metal Pony (my welds look bit nicer than his, damn it). 🤣 I will not ever question your knowledge and experience of your work. I just want to try this kind of stuff.
I may have to prove myself wrong by testing this contraption against modified OEM...
Sir. Because we can, simple as that.
On the other hand, I would never pay $50- 350 for muffler mod or pipe I can do myself. Why the hell are you porting chainsaws? You do it because you can and someone pays good money for you. Am I right?
Thank you, Sir.
In all honesty that was *s-wordtiest tubing I have ever welded. 😁
Since pipe was somekind of success (power loss less than 25%), next pipe will be done of thin walled stainless.
Test cut video without touching carb settings, runs little fat until it is buried in wood. Very fun to...
Not exactly muffler but who cares. Pipe is not quite done yet (missing end cone and smaller tube).
Constructed of zinc plated 35 and 42 mm steel tubing. Lots of pie cuts, fitting, cursing and welding. Noise sample later this week (hopefully).
One thing is for sure, this is going to be loud.
