Your going to get a lot of sparks wether it's good or not. I would take the starter off and make sure it's spinning freely and then test. -
That is the simplest way. Then work backwards

066 redeye replied to the thread John Deere D110 Not Starting.you can also put jumper leads direct from battery to starter motor. This will prove battery and starter bypassing solenoid.

Rapid clicks or chatter from the starting solenoid usually means a bad or partially discharged battery, or corroded battery terminals...
