I have seen several posts here and on other forums about different sealants used on chainsaws. It would seem that there are many different ones to choose from. I am interested to see what is your favorite, and why? What brand will you never use again, and why?
So far I have only used Permatex Motoseal. I have had good luck with it so far. I chose it because I can pick it up readily at virtually every auto parts store locally.

I've used derco for a long time,I've never had it fail and it smells great.

I rarely use it anymore,if I can at all I use a gasket.

I use Motoseal, it is readily available.

I do want to try Dirko when it comes time for a new tube.

I use motoseal and locate 518 depending on the situation. I like 518 for base gaskets because you don't have to rush to get the jug down like motoseal. Also if you use too much on a base gasket the uncured stuff hanging out in the transfers gets blown out the muffler. I like motoseal for clam shell engines and sealing impulse nipples.

Yamabond 4 because it is designed for sealing 2 cycle crank cases.

Is Permatex 51817 Anaerobic Gasket Maker basically the same stuff?

I've used permatex copper with good results (I've seen some pretty reputable guys on another site use it), but recently picked up some loctite 518 from all the talk.

I used that spray on paper gaskets if I was making one. Lay it out and spray it and let it dry good on both sides then spray lightly again and assemble.
