We have some Red Oaks here but a lot more Pin, Post and a crappier version (Butternut maybe?) which has a lot of "bowls" that hang off the bottom of the branches, It isn't near as hot or dense and rots nearly as fast as Piss Elm...

If I am not mistaken (would need a picture to see for sure) but those "oak bowls" are actually caused by a bug (a certain wasp). They are caused by chemicals injected by the larvae.

Back on topic: I can't pick a favorite saw so I am not even going to try.

I still go back and forth, for my best between the 2100's or 288's. The newer saws 395 390 sweet, less vibration. But not quite built the same.
