xpUOTE="Canadian farm boy, post: 44240, member: 309"]I've always been a stihl guy, but I have to admit these high top huskies with the full wraps and big spikes are really starting to look good. Someday I might have to take a walk down the other side of the road just to see the view if you know what I mean.;)
@Ron660 thats a nice looking saw.

They're worth it. I debate back and forth whether I'll sell my 372xp or not to finance a 390xp but it's a hell of a saw. I like it's hot rod character but I think I like the 044 a shade better outside of it's air filter. There are plenty of other great Husky saws too. You really can't got wrong with the better Huskies, Stihls, Echos, Solos/Dolmars and Efcos. It really boils down to preference, dealer support and specific model.[/QUOTE]
Heck I once had all Stihls but now I have a 550, 372, 390, and a 064!! I dont know whats happened!!! :):cunaooooo:

That's Douglas Fir. It's much harder wood than pine. We have hardwoods here, too...

I just like playing with new saws, and this one runs really good. It's not nearly as smooth as my 7900, though.

Naming[edit]
The common name honors David Douglas, a Scottish botanist and collector who first reported the extraordinary nature and potential of the species. The common name is misleading since it is not a true fir, i.e., not a member of the genusAbies. For this reason the name is often written as Douglas-fir (a name also used for the genus Pseudotsuga as a whole).[2]

The specific epithet, menziesii, is after Archibald Menzies, a Scottish physician and rival naturalist to David Douglas. Menzies first documented the tree on Vancouver Island in 1791. Colloquially, the species is also known simply as Doug-fir or as Douglas pine (although the latter common name may also refer to Pinus douglasiana).

Hmm. I did not know that. Still, not nearly as soft as a Ponderosa pine.

Well I know it does not have spring AV, but how does it run compared to your 7900? Are they close? And, it should be lighter (but not smoother).

I haven't done a side by side. I just dropped that tree, made a couple bucking cuts, and noodled a little. I am impressed by the power, though.

I will do them side by side with the same 28" bar and chain, when I get a little free time.
