Question from the greenie: What's the best way to clean mating surfaces when using Loctite/Permatex 518?

Also, is 518 the stuff used where you simply run the saw to clean up any internal over-spooge?

I guess I'm the odd man in the crowd. ..This is what I use. Can be messy if you aren't careful, but effective! 2016-08-31-22-35-43--2143400703.jpeg

I've seen many failures due to using too much sealer under cylinders. Not instant, but after hours of run time when a piece of it eventually hardens enough to break loose.
Make sure you don't leave the piston down at bdc if you use 518. Ask @Adirondackstihl why if you want to know. Lol

I used to wait 12 hr cure with 518, but after 20 min it has 75% strength. Last few saws I've built, just fired em off once finished.

Hondabond for me but I know a guy and can get it cheap(er).
I have been known to use Indian Head on case gaskets though.
