Any Canadian Stihl dealers (or kind Sameritains) looking to ship one of these to the US? I'd happily get on a waiting list if someone has one.

(And pay you for your time)

What is the "type II" designation? I'm not familiar.

If he's Canadian, he's using the US prices. Or maybe he's a smart Canadian, and buying them from Stihl at Canadian $ and selling them for US $

@michaelmj11 I'd be happy to help if I can. I'm not a dealer, just a firewood hack with a bunch of stihl dealers real close. I'm not familiar with the typeII designation. I can get a ms261 cm v-w (heated handles). Btw stihl.ca says the ms261 cm v-w with a 16" bar is about $820 Cadimage.jpg

Don't need/want heated handles, but here are some pictures.

Apparently the "Old" or Type I 261

And the Type II
261 type II.jpg

At least this is just about all the info I have. Other than that the typeII is a touch lighter, and a touch more powerful.

Much appreciated!

There is this also (from someone else's post), just took me a minute to find:

Stihl261 type I: 11.5 lb., 3.9 HP ((large mount bar, low profile, .325, or standard B&C)
Stihl 261 type II: 10.8 lb., 4.1 HP (large mount bar, low profile, .325, or standard B&C)

The Canada sale on the 261 may only cover the type I model. Some dealers are getting in new batches of 261 saws now and we will find out.

Another person just said:

but come February a big price increase is coming and specifically on this model. So that can be from our low dollar and new technology always makes the saw go up.

Soo, if they have already started shipping these, but are listing them at the old price, I'd love to grab one

I didn't even know the type 2 existed...lol. I'll make a couple calls in the morning and let you know what I find out. Cheers

Someone else (from Australia) had this to add:

"Well the newest news here is that delivery has been halted! Someone in Waiblingen is getting the heat pretty bad at the moment..."

But yah if there is anyone who finds the Type II for the sale that they had been under, what $599-$625 Canadian, I'd happily commit to buying one.

@michaelmj11 I just got off the phone with my local stihl dealer. He said he hasn't seen or heard anything about a type II ms 261 other then a few rumors that have yet to be verified. He said they have a product introduction meeting planed for March sometime. He suspects if there is such a thing as the ms261 typeII he'll find out about it then. He was also speculating that there might be news of a new model saw being released. Possibly an ms442 or something similar. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Nothing to apologize for. I appreciate the help! Thank you.

You'll never see a 261 CM of any type for that price CDN .
