Working up some more free wood. Trying to determine if it's gonna go to the smoker or the wood stove. Can y'all help me with ID?

Once I have an answer, I will put the species in the title, so others can use it as reference.

99% sure on white oak.

Could be a Shamard (sp) oak hybrid from Europe. I have one in my front yard. Looks like a cross between red and white oak. Could be a Chestnut oak but doubtful there. Chestnut oak is cross breading with white oak in Medford and Marlton area. No one knows why.

Smoker!

Tasty tannins of the vanilla and fruity variety ... And super cold nights if you have no black locust or walnuts to burn.

The flavor is in the sap wood and the bark. Save the heart wood for the BBQ or cold nights.

Excellent! Thanks for your help fellas. I’ll edit the title with the answer so folks can use for reference in the future.

I'd say white oak too. I'm better ID'ing with leaves.

Chestnut oak is a variety of white oak. A lot of the different whites will hybridize...they're like pepper plants. I've heard of reds crossing with reds and whites crossing with whites, but not red with white...(and I used to live in both Medford and Marlton)...
