No one mentioned Nickleson  either! Oberg are the exotic unicorns, I can buy them but they are more than double the price of other good files. Anyone tried ol Sandvick or Windsor branded, not sure who actually made their files. Someone like Willard would prolly know that. Given what we have to pay for chisel bit files here ($20-35!!) I've been tempered to try the newly offered chinesium 'Holtzforma' chisel files for $6 bucks delivered from the land of the 'strong quality' & 'fast cutty' saw specialists of the PRC. I have a $6 10pin sprocket on my way too not that i need it but that's damn cheap for a 10 pin 3/8 large splines! Don't tell BedfordT about them...

I stick with Stihl files. Easy to get at my dealer, they work very well and the quality is consistent. Hard to beat Stihl files and chains. Never got a bad product yet.

I believe Pferd makes files for Stihl.
I'm not really sure. I just know they're very good and consistent. Plus I get to go snooping around the dealer. Lol. Most other brands I've tried have been too hit and miss. It probably is true as the Pferd and Stihl 2in1 file are identical except for color.

Until I see a pferd logo (horse jumpin through a loop) on a Stihl branded file I won't believe it. But Stihl is German as is Pferd & they DO have history of re-branding product together so... Either way, if I was a saw OEM, Pferd would be the file company I'd choose.

I am buying Stihl files, they are holding up good and I can get them locally.

I'd have to look through my dull files to see if I have used any other file brands so far.

Vallorbe makes Stihl files. The box says made in Switzerland. At least that is what the Stihl rep to me at the TCIA expo a couple of years ago. I bought a box of Vallorbe a year ago and it is the same file that you get in a Stihl box minus the name stamped in the tang.

Stihl doesn’t make thier files. They gonna have to contract them out so it’s gonna go to whoever is gonna make them for them. They have all been good that I have used. I’ll check the markings on my little three pack. They are old so that won’t help anyone buying new ones
