Do one of you grinding whizzes want to straighten out some(a bunch) of chains for me? I can keep them cutting fairly well with a file but I end up getting off a bit and and they slow down. I just want them straightened out, I tend to put a curve in them. I had a local stihl dealer ruin a few chains so I'm looking elsewhere. Very willing to pay for your time, I just want them done right!

They are..
3/8 .050 micro Oregon

.325 .063 stihl

And regular 3/8 .050 .

Thanks!

I know you found someone to fix your chains but some simple like the husky guides makes it easy to get your angles back and can be used just about anywhere. 20190601_210015.jpg I've got a stihl HSO grinder and find myself using the guide every 8-10 times I file just to check. Easier then pulling the chain off to use the grinder and small enough to take anywhere.

I use one of those, but come to find out, I was fighting bad grinding from my dealer and everything was way off so I couldn't ever get stuff great!

You know you don't have to pay hundreds of dollars for a grinder of your own don't you?

$30.00 with out a coupon at HF. I got mine as a BD gift and is 5 years old now and still works great.

There is a store on Miller road in Flint as you probably know.
I mounted mine on a 2x6 chunk with a bit of 2x4 screwed under it so I can clamp it in my vice so I can use it and then put away.
Screw the dealers who charge and give you back crap.

Try one. If you don't like it some one would love it as a BD gift like I do mine.

What would be your go to cheaper grinder?
If you read through that HF thread on AS, I (and several others) found that the simpler versions worked best. Fewer moving parts, etc.
Older Chicago Electric (HF) at garage sales ($15 - $20), etc., or other brands on eBay (under $50); the names change a lot.
The Oregon 310-120 (a bit more, but better quality) or the Forester copy.

Again, these are very limited in power and in choice of angles, etc. They also come with cheap wheels. Check out new wheels (almost as much as the grinders, or more!) on Bailey's, etc.

The 'clone' grinders kick in around $100, usually providing more power and more angles, but of variable quality.

A used, Oregon or Tecomec grinder can occasionally be found, but hard to predict. New ones start around $200:

I want a grinder, but can file good enough. Hoping to find something decent for $200ish if possible. If not I'll file!

Didn't knoiw you would have a problem with a nice grinder because of a hand grip like a walker/moter cycle and other things.

So here is a new Oregon for less than two hundred.

Less than $100.00 with no hand brakehttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BBQMR5M/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01BBQMR5M&pd_rd_w=zm4ms&pf_rd_p=8a8f3917-7900-4ce8-ad90-adf0d53c0985&pd_rd_wg=1sV1y&pf_rd_r=ZBMQRSSX8A6W4F4EFH7M&pd_rd_r=cf70986a-9065-11e9-b98f-71d31850d82f

Less than $100 but more than the HF one.

To bad the brake is a problem, the HF model has over 4 stars in reviews and for $30.00 is a real nice tool for a week end wood cutter.

Clone. Not Oregon. Come with the cheap wheels, etc.
Not a great tool (many different ones out there - can't be sure about a specific one), but a lot of guys like them for the price, and much better (more power, more angle choices) than the Harbor Freight ones.

There is an Oregon mini-grinder:
"Oregon 310-120 Bench Mounted Mini Saw Chain Grinder" (search to avoid annoying Amazon media)

Much better quality than the HF ones, but still small, low powered, limited angles, and comes with fine wheels. Really woke up after putting on better wheels. But at $80, most guys move to the full sized clone grinders. I like it's small size, and low noise, if they fixed the issues identified 4 years ago!

The Oregon and Tecomec grinders are selling new on Amazon and eBay for less than when I bought my 511A many years ago. E.g. Oregon 510-120 for $240 shipped. Tecomec $194 shipped.

Currently trying to get that used 511 from the previous post. Opinion on the Tecomec over the Oregon?
