I would like to get a 346 oe, or a 242/246
to see what all the fuss is about. Plus I'm working on a 40-60-80 plan with 3 manufacturers
between those I'll grab 242 anyday, its a more compact powerhead compared against 346, but, part issue pretty much killed any decent 242 projects.
242's powerhead is actually shorter then Stihl MS-201 rear handle version.

Entre los que agarraré 242 anyday, su una cabeza más compacta en comparación con 346, pero, parte cuestión casi mató cualquier decente 242 proyectos.
242 es en realidad más corto que la versión Stihl MS-201 de la manija trasera. [/ QUOTE]
I have a 242xp, hard to find cylinder in good condition, no wonder, does not like to go below 14,000 rpm

Tor, I thought you slightly favored a 246 over a 242 .... ?

speaking about them 242....scored this one for 80$ today through my ex JRed dealer ;)
I've promised my logger buddy one, and I'll go through her, will put in new seals, carb gasket, fuel line etc and give it to him as a freebie. I owe him big time since he gave me one minty 346 xpg ne.
His lineup will be: 42 special, 242xp, 246, 242 xpg, 2x346 xpg oe, 550xpg, 357xpg

Far as I know they where produced through 1998, if so, this one has to be one of the last ones :)

Must be nice to have decent dealers around. There are countless loggers around here yet there isn't a competent dealer for who knows how far... 100 miles maybe more. So a guy can't even find project saws. Plus I have called them all within an hour to see if they could call be when they get an " unfixable" saw. Nope we just throw them in the trash!

it's difficult to get a leg into a dealer shop, it wasnt easy for me.
A cousin to me fixed the deal I have with two countryside Husky dealers (same owner), but most important was to follow up the deal, when I drove up there to pick up a batch oem parts, they had found a decent 550xpg and 2×346 xpg projects for me for an symbolic price.
It has continued the same way after this :) they keep the projects on hold for me and I buy all the parts I need from them, win win deal

No big deal I've had to clean up oem cylinders before.
Doesn't bother me.
I did buy 2 bb 372 and 3 50 mm 372 farmertec cylinders that were fine very little if any clean up needed they ran good just higher squish than normal.
After a little simple porting really good runner's.

+1 on having to clean up cylinder comes with territory

I did have a local shop cooperating, but it stopped. I think they view every saw I fix as a lost new saw sale.
that wouldnt surprise me Mike, some dealers can't see a long term solution.
I got several close dealers who would never sell out one non-fixable saw, I guess they just think it will ruin their sale :D

I think I’m in with my local echo dealer. I’ve always been a stihl guy but I like my 3 echo products so far. Cool with me cause they will actually sit around and talk where all the stihl dealers around me have no interest in talking about the products unless you for sure are going to buy something...
