So i did what ya said, and got it off. 3 flat heads and about 6 4 letter words. We got good spark. This seems like a job u couldnt perform in the woods unless u used an axe:D
This saw is from the 50's i believe. I wonder if the almost hard cap used to be flexible rubber? 3mm lip around the whole thing.
Thanks fellas!image.jpgimage.jpg

I have 2 old McCullochs, 1-43 and 250 that have the same plug cover and they too are rock hard, had to take recoil cover off to get to plug didn't want to crack it in half.

If you take the recoil off w/ the cap on you can slide the cap in place as you reassemble the recoil cover.

You can get NOS spark plug covers for the old McCulloch saws from Randy Duncan, soft and pliable.

working on my 550 xpg
only removed some flaws in the transferes and exhaust ports, cut the base set squish at .020 and gutted muffler.
I put a 8 tooth sprocket on it with 18" oregon speedcut bar and chain cant wait to try it out...!

And I picked up this yesterday form the original owner, hardly broken in.
