She unwound with no resistance.

Found flywheel key sheered.
Measured bore at 50mm, P&C look good.
Installed new woodruff key.
Added fuel.

If I'm not mistaken the 266 also has a 50mm bore. From what everyone else has said about things like the top cover etc I'd guess you're right with it being a 268.

Simple conclusion: nobody knows what OP's saw is, model number or year. I think that is why serial numbers exist, but if the part holding the serial number is replaced, then it's anybody's guess.
