I also bought an original Stihl fuel line and plastic tee for my huztl ms660. The tee was just about the same price as the fuel line. Piss me off that I’m sitting here and can see the fuel leaking down the handle and onto the floor from the Chinese set up. It starts to get expensive cause I have three ms660 that have the same apparent problems.

Funny I see most of the gouging is by Stihl, I have been saying it for a long time now, you can't afford to rebuild a Stihl and actually make a profit. You can buy a oem 70cc kit from husky for around 120-130 while Stihl wants closer to 300. Stihl charges more because well they can! You can blame the kit saws all you want, they make husky kit saws too and there prices are still reasonable. Most of the kits are made by KS, Mahle and G company for booth husky and Stihl. I use few AM parts but they have there place, just like those chain catchers.

I never try to make a profit by rebuilding Stihl chainsaws with OEM parts from a dealer. I really do not think that it can be done. I am now rebuilding a crushed Stihl MS 661. The dealer already told me to junk the saw and to tell the owner to buy a new one for $1400. Only OEM parts are available for a 661, and that amount will add up to at least $600 before I start working to rebuild and save it.

I think that may be considered a gouge. WDYT?

They’re gouging both ways. Should be under $1100 for a new one.

Not around here. With a 30" bar, $1,340 plus 7.5% sales tax. The 661 is in high demand. I sold a used one that ran well for $850 and never should have.

If you can get a new one for $1100 in Tennessee, I suggest you buy it. Prices on Stihl saws hardly ever drop until the dealer is allowed to close them out.

It was $1134 out the door with a 24”. No way I’d pay $1400 for one. I won’t pay $800 for one either but that’s me.

$40 for a OEM muffler. A stamp sheet metal can that cost $40? No thanks. Chinese muffler is my choice.

I can put an Arctic MS661 Power Head in your hands for less than $1400.

$609 for this and add a maxflow setup to that. This only made sense because he got the 661 (crushed) for free. Saw had a half a tank of gas through it when it got crushed. Parts add up fast.

I don't get why all companies charge so much for parts. Like we are stupid enough to think there is $2000 in parts on a saw. If they can afford to sell a whole new saw for 1000 then mark up some but not 100%. It's almost like they don't want you to fix them.

IDK if it’s the same but:
For like forever we carried a ton of spare parts for the production machines. Bearings, belts, seals and you name it.

Then we started getting taxed on the spares inventory. [emoji15] State? Local? IDK

Followed that by sending the vast majority of it to the scrap yard.

And, yes, then the machine down time went thru the roof. [emoji849]

Don't you just love the way they like to collect double or more on tax collections? Just like the Mafia. By the time we keep an item in inventory a few years we lose money selling it yet we got to charge and pay even more taxes. The only one makes any money is the tax men.

Federal, State, and Local taxes can eat you alive especially if you are a small low profit shop.

I have the complete opposite feeling of being gouged when I go to my dealer. I feel guilty most every time I go to buy parts or saws, he gives me amazing deals. I can get into a Arctic Wrap 661 with a 28” bar for about $1000 USD. The Arctic Wrap 461 that’s in the mail to Randy now cost me $900 USD and they shipped it to Randy for me. Just awesome customer service, I couldn’t imagine buying from anyone else.

Not a chainsaw but my bobcat mower dealer- a new suspension seat for the mower is $970 before tax, the new designed one is over $1100 plus tax.

A member here told me to take the part of the seat to a boat upholstery shop and have them cut me a new price of foam, so I got the dealer to sell me a replacement cover for the seat at $130 plus tax.

Back story is a damn mouse built a nest under the seat, and my Doberman ate the seat off the mower trying to get to it. Not sure if she got the mouse or not.
