Hey guys new here

Picked up a shindy backpack blower That wouldn't start.

Seemed a little light when pulling it over but I still bought it. Ran a compression check and it was about 60 psi.

Got it apart rings are melted/froze and piston is junk. I'm going to reuse the cylinder it's not too bad.

Found a piston ring kit for $60 should be here today....woohoo hopefully she runs.

I 'm amazed it didn't score that cylinder. Great job.

It did a little bit I lightly sanded it and put a new piston and ring in it. It's back together and runs good I have about $100 in it [emoji16]

I have some nos Echo pistons and rings but doubt they would of matched. How does the compression feel? You've got a beast of wind.

it feels good now it reads over 90 on my old gauge i know its not completely accurate as it doesn't thread in but it gives me an idea generally over 90 on my guage it will run and under 60 wont.

another way i have found is if you pull the cord slow with constant pressure and you can lift up the machine off the ground a blower or weedeater ect. then compression is probably good. if not and the pull cord out and the machine stays on the ground inspect further.

Why isn't my stuff that clean? I spend half a day cleaning them up just to get to the carbs.

Question. I have a Coleman Powermate 5000 generator with a destroyed 10 hp block, broke rod. And I have a 5000 watt Honda generator with a 6.5 hp engine, that I use, just as a example. Would a 6.5 hp Predator put out enough hp to replace the 10 hp? That's one of destructions i'm working on.

Junior, I bet that it would if the displacement is similar. HP ratings don't mean a heckuva lot in the real world on small engines.

Nice. My first job was cutting grass at a golf course, they had one of those Shindaiwa backpacks. That thing was strong but had a habit of sucking the back of my t-shirt into the fan!

Currently working on, in order of priority:

Garage door. The laser beams that detect obstacles are malfunctioning and not letting it go down. You have to hold the button to make it go all the way down, then release and press it again when it reaches the bottom and starts on it's way up again.

1998 Ford Ranger. Right rear brake is dragging, probably a seized parking brake cable. Fords are really bad about that.

Murray 20" push mower. Nice, lightweight little mower for places my riders can't go. Putting a bottom crank seal, deadman handle, and one wheel on it as soon as they show up.

Murray 8hp/30" RER. Carb is evidentally clogged up, only runs on half choke. Ordered a kit for it, I'm sure it hasn't been touched since 1996 when it rolled off the line.

Well, against all odds the garage door seems to be fixed. I found one of the eyes was not pointed at the other. I adjusted it and all seems well now. I'm waiting on parts for the other jobs, so I'm trying to make my half of the garage useable again. It is filled with automotive and small engine junk to the point that I can't work on anything there.

From what I have read and other opinions, 6 1/2 hp will not put out enough for 20 amps which the generator is rated. My neighbor is reworking those predator engines to 16 hp for go-kart racing, he love them. But before I fabricate a tool to separate the the engine from the generator I was asking opinions. If he would just settle for 10 amps I might be okay.

I grabbed an echo trimmer off the scrap pile at a friends landscape business. He said it had no spark. I pulled the plug and found this.20180310_150130.jpgCleaned the plug up and it ran like a top. Pure laziness but it got me a free trimmer. Then pulled the limiters nd took the cat out.20180310_162121.jpg 20180311_042400.jpg

Yup, I got one. Very capable machine for it's size, handles a blade just fine. There should be a little plastic plug in the carb body under the primer bulb. This can be drilled out to reveal the mixture screw. These machines don't like to run rich, mine sure doesn't. In fact, I found that adjusting the max RPM to the published spec caused it to run quite rich and lack power.

The parts for my little Murray push mower showed up last night and I got it going. Posted about it in the Gentlemen Start your Mowers thread.
