Ther is a spring inside. The cone part will push in.
it sounds like a spring loaded center for tapping...but idk why it would have such a large body...
the tap center is on the back side of the tap handle in this pic

Cool thread. I'll get some pics. Been cleaning out old boxes of tools this week.

They made three of those wheel bearing spanner sockets. Had them all at one time. Dana, Spicer and Eaton is what they fit. Covers most of the trucks up to two ton made with separate cone/race and wheel bearing sets. I think the old Diamond Rio's and Toyota were different.

Any ideas? It has a patent date of July 18, 1898. It has 2 wire cutters, hole punch, screwdriver and an end cutter.
Pretty sure that is a leather saddle builder/repair tool. I had some saddles repaired by our hoof doc when I was a little runt. Yea, I knew what real horse power was. Memory is a bit foggy but it very well could be for leather work. Looks quite familiar.

View attachment 23279 Inch n 3/8 what's this for came in a big box of Williams old 3/4 drive stuff nice box for cheap this is a snap on View attachment 23280 pretty sure it has a specific purpose strange thing it's almost like a spark plug socket but big There is no rubber in there but it rounds inside the socket any clue?
Lug nut socket New Bud wheels are 1-1/2" outer nut 13/16" SQ. intermediate. Now a days most tire repair shops have impacts with extra long anvils.. The older 40's and 50's 1, 1-1/2, and 2 ton trucks had the studs so close to the (axle) hub you needed the length to clear the hub and an extension would lose a lot of impact power as well as aggravate you when it fell apart and the floppy flex err!!!. The round smaller throat is for strength and help pilot/center socket on stud and somewhat protect threads... This socket "WHEN YOU NEED IT" is hard to find. I am replying to a 3 year old post.. DO YOU KNOW WHERE IT IS NOW????
