Nice job Kevin! I think Joe will be happy!
I have Big Joe’s permission to hang on to her a bit longer, I’m going back into her

I’m impressed. Both are moving with authority. I like mine best lol. I’m excited to try it out. Nice job Kevin!
Thank you Sir

Very nice saws and comparison videos! Thank you for sharing many times over.

Possibly a dumb question, and I ask for the benefit of my ear....

Both of those saws sounded to finish the cut a touch lean. Am I tuning too rich on my ported saws or are those tunes slightly lean for longer cuts?

I think the 395 is on the edge, but okay for me.
661 have m tronic and normally can’t go to lean.

Here is a nice short thread about tuning on the edge https://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/064-av-max-revs.304656/

Plus the Hooskie 395 was a fresh port job. They keep leaning out until fully broken in. To a point.

What are you planning to change? I mean, dang that thing runs like crazy!
Going to give it less blowdown

Actually, I tune richer for longer cuts and leaner for smaller cuts

395 is blubbering at just over 13k.
Low speed adjusting screw got a teeny-tiny tweak towards the rich side right after I made those cuts

I thought maybe he forgot to put the rings in the 395 :roto2nuse:
It’d be nice to think it’s something like that, so at least there’s a reason why the 661 was ahead. The nutz & boltz of it are clear as mud, I believe that it’s got a smidge too much blowdown

Please keep us posted. What characteristics are leading you to think less blowdown?
Edumacated shot in the dark ................ I could be wrong and I'll have to get a new cylinder and start over. I cant have a 661 be this far ahead of any 395 I do

Hey Kev, just thinking out loud here and just for chits and giggles could you try a different muff on the saw? Maybe one of your piped muffs?

I could ................ it might help a little
I'm pretty sure it wont make up 5 seconds though.
The owners preference for a single large exit shouldn't hold back this saw, I made it large enough (Shawn Carr style) that it wont restrict anything.

Gotcha. I should of gone back and looked at the muff mod pictures again. What you’ve got there should definitely breath.:beer-toast1:
