wanting opinions on which one of my 50cc class stihls to have ported. I have an older stihl 026 with the smaller bore and a stihl 028 super with brand new looking cylinder and piston.

026 for sure i wouldnt waste my time on an 028.028 is heavier and and smaller bore 42 as opposed to 44 mm on 026.also ive foun the 44mm 026 has some better numbers then 44.7 on later 026.you would never notice diff its .7 mm i dont like oiling system on the 028 either.drf256 builds a great 026 they are his speciailty good luck.welcome to the sight.

Ok didn't know if the couple cc's more on the 028 super plus the maybe the flywheel being a little heavier might help in the 50cc class. But this is why I was asking

Like them both for different things think the 028 is more of a lugger and the 026 more of a high rpm saw. Like them both but probably will have the 026 done. The 028 has probably been built less often so it's different. Maybe do the 026 first and at a later date do the 028.

Been working on my 044 hybrid. Canadian farm boy has been helping me and I am having a good time. Not anywhere near as fast as one he built but still cuts well.

He said he's never done a full port job on an 026 so I'm going to let him port mine. Sending him two cylinders so if something happens he has another one.

Canadian farm boy is going to port my 026 for me. He's never done full port job on one and he told me but I'm going to send him the saw and a second jug and let him have at it. Only reason I thought about the 028 super is it looks to cut real well ported looking at you tube video of the mmws 028 super. I think john1212 has or had it.

Having played with both stock and ported, you'll get exactly the experience you described, except more, (done correctly).

For a light limbing and bucking saw I'd do the 026 as they're a neat little saw. For a more all-around unit in largely average firewood conditions (20" and less trunks) I might tend towards the 028. Ideally I'd do both but whichever one you like using more often will likely be the best starting point.

I have an 064 I might get done later also. And enough stuff to build a second one just needs crank bearings and maybe a piston. So maybe one ported and one stock.

Probably just do one now and the other later, got my first saw at 10 or 11 so probably not going to quit liking chainsaws. Free homelite super 2 was the first saw. For a 15$ handle at the local dealer my parents got every dead tree in the yard cleaned up. The next saws were a brand new 026 when I was about 14 and I bought a 3.7 craftsman from the neighbor for bigger trees. Been down hill since

Think of Stihl 026 chainsaw, as a small block 350 Chevy is to racing engines. Parts plentiful. Very popular.
You'll be much happier with the 026 ported. Better filtration options, slightly smaller package.
The Silver Eagle will take care of you.

For all the Hooskie guys, please don't my analogy the wrong way. Just an analogy. lol
