Picked up two heavyweight MCCullochs today, they appear identical except the pull starts are on opposite sides(seems odd,but i know next to nothing about Macs)
They are either 7-40's or 1-72's, or a similar model.
Any tips on ID'ing them greatly appreciated!

Great! Found it, the one on the left is stamped 740 840,so its one of either, serial 41465
the one on the right is faint but appears to be 1-86 serial 4032

Normally there will be a line or something through the model that the saw is not. Here is what it looked like on my 380.IMG_20160201_225832201_HDR.jpg

That's unfortunate. I did a little digging. The 740 weighs 23 1/2 pounds pho, the 840 weighs 27 1/2 pounds pho. Put it on the scale and you can have your ID.

The one stamped 740, 840 is a model 740 as it's a direct drive.
The 840 would be the same saw but geardrive. The one stamped
1-86 should be a geardrive but it's not so it's probably a 1-76.
That one has also been converted to left hand start as they were
right hand from the factory.
