I couldn't get a good pic
Has decent hook to it.

Interesting grind profile

Looks like some kind of specialized grind for a specific purpose although I assume it's just straight up firewood chain

Some of the Archer has some pretty unusual profiles as well

That factory grind is UGLY!!!
I would sharpen that before it ever saw wood. Just me.

I totally agree with the ugly part but if I had 2 loops I would file one and run one stock just to see whats what

I have a pretty good idea of the outcome but still...

I would never intentionally derail a thread, but...

Has anyone tried the new Notch brand chain from Treestuff?

Supposedly German steel and manufactured in China (of course)

It's a few bucks more than an Archer loop and a couple bucks less than an Oregon loop from Comstock/Loggerchain

You could always make some cuts stock, then after sharpened/shaped and time the cuts using same stick of wood for the good of the order. LOL
Oh yeah, and video them for us.

Never heard of it
But tell me it doesn't look like the same components that 8ten and archer use
With yet another bluing process.
No way can i prove this
I don't have any of this but
Seems this way to me.
Upstart-8ten-archer-Oregon-carlton-stihl
Is my pecking order for chain
Unless i get a screaming deal I'll not buy anymore stihl.

I have bought files and bits and pieces from Treestuff before because they didn't gouge me on shipping to Alaska

Notch might be their store brand for all I know

As far as looking alike?

I agree; there was another post (not sure which chain thread) with side by side pics of a couple of the flavor of the day chains

Besides the logo all I could see was the very slight difference of a heavier chamfer on the corner of tie strap plates; otherwise, they were essentially identical

If a new company wants to get on the chain bandwagon then I would assume the simplest process would be find a Chinese company thats's already making them to an acceptable spec, change enough design points to not get sued, and stand back and become a chain tycoon

I'm like you; I have enough chains already and no need to go out and dig up yet another clone

I think the thing to take away from all these recent Archer/8Ten/Upstart threads is that it's a good time to be in the saw hobby because competition drives down prices and revs up the competition to have a better product

Win Win in my book

You mean actually go outside and run a chainsaw?

And actually get it dirty?

Hmmmmmmm

Sir, your suggestion has some merit

I will mull it over and get back to you...

And stuffs

I'm done overpaying for chain
Any chain can get wrecked cutting what i cut.
Yard and fenceline tree's
I've ripped cutters off 30.00+ chain's on metal and ceramic insulators many time's.
But the basically 3 for the price of one of these
Bargain chain's
And so far i haven't had a durability issue
Just the normal wear in stretch
And i file them to cut how i like.
I'm just a firewooder now and drop tree's
Occasionally.
But they are doing good.
My friends sell firewood are really happy with
Them
They cut a lot more than i do.

I agree your going to hit stuff.

My chain order is not considered firewood chain these days.
The old Carlton is number one to me for many reasons.
Stihl is second, then Oregon, Archer and not much else.... I just noticed. Felling big uglies demands to quality chain razor sharp chan but it don't last for long.
Might try some of that 8ten and Raisman 404 for testing.
