Definitive Dave sent out a few Italian made cases for the MS440 a few years ago. Well......I've had a local logger trying to kill one of them for a good while. It's holding up just fine, but the aftermarket case gasket is crap. Now........not all aftermarket case gaskets are bad........but these white ones are just crap.

Well........maybe I spoke too soon. As I was putting the cases back together, I noticed that the PTO side bearing was a little loose. Not real bad, but not as tight as I'm used to seeing on OE cases and bearings. So.......to get this saw back to the woods, I used a new OE bearing, and coated it was Loctite 660 sleeve retainer. We'll see how long it runs this time. lol

Good to know if something major happens to mine. Are these cases readily available? Do they use the flip caps or the old screw caps?

Randy, I am trying to secure the discretionary funds to have you port my 440. Wife says I don't need a hot rod saw, I said she didn't need another pistol, but she got one anyways! I will contact you as soon as I have the funds and slow down a little. How far from Catoosa are you?

These cases are available from several vendors.

I'm in Fentress County........Catoosa is in the next county, Cumberland. So not far.

Those white gaskets suck, no idea why they ship with them.
I try to always include the good thicker black gaskets with crankcases.
The white gaskets almost feel like they are slippery on one side (waxed?).
I like the Loctite 518 on both sides of the case gasket everytime.
I stock NWP gasket sets, OEM Stihl gasket sets and loose Farmertec gaskets.
Dave

Love the Beatles!!

Oh and the aftermarket cases all take flippy caps except the MS660 which uses twist in caps like the original.

We built this saw before we realized just how bad those gasket are. It still has been going for a couple of years.

Dave sent me a set of am 460 cases and am crank.
It's had a ported cylinder on it for a year
And cuts timber everyday without issue.

Good info in this thread. I was wondering about the 460 cases. Thanks guys for posting!

Just out of curiosity what does a 440 case like this run? I'm rebuilding an 044 but the case is beat pretty bad, might turn it into a 440 10mm hybrid

Husky 350 353 - new listing this week
MS260 $51 - out of stock
MS360 $54 - out of stock
MS361 $61 - out of stock

Also amazing good crankshafts now available (not from Farmertec, theirs have been disappointing across all models so far) for MS200T, MS440 (12mm only), MS460, 064 and early 066 and MS660.
I just received Husky 365 and 395 cranks from the same folks, hopefully they are the same quality.

I am working on adding 80 new listings to Ebay this weekend, but afterward I will add the MS660 crankcase to the ChainsawCC.Com website for an OPE discounted price :)

Would you use a hiway gasket over the note book paper gasket in the pic?
