Don't let big squish numbers fool you, chamber size has just as much to do with static compression. Large squish and small chamber is just another way to skin the cat of compression.

.050" squish is right where every stock 394 I measured came in at. Not surprised the 395 is the same. Another saw with large squish in stock config is the 288. Seems as though more Huskies can go without the base gasket than not in my experience

Toss the base gasket and mod the muffler is a good place to start if you are inclined to open er up.

You'll never know what that saw really is with that short of a bar. I'd rather run a 70cc saw with a 24.
Very much agree with you there. If you want to really see what it is capable of, put a 36 on it and noodle some sugar maple. Then you will see

Thank you. Why I'm asking, I like others on here say Modded it really means optimized. Feel better now. Bet it has limit caps can I use same trick drywall screw and yank? I will dump gasket, retune. Any rev limit issues? Looking at muffler design opening stock port looks like best, how big?

It has a tube in the muffler you'll want to get rid of. Also the limits are the push in type. You can get an adjuster tool on ebay for cheap.

I'd imagine you need a few tanks to break it in a bit before said race? Unless the 660 is fresh too...

After deleting the base gasket on my '94, I got around 185#. That plus a second port on the muff gave it a nice bump in performance.

:icon_popcorn: I just snagged this cat and have to throw in a new slug. So I'll be following your lead @Beer Gut

Not sure how familiar you are with the 395. If you take the muffler brace bolts out, cylinder bolts, filter brace bolts, and linkage off you can pull the muffler, cylinder, carb and all off as one piece

I'd have to agree.

You can also clamp a razor blade in a part of small vice grips, heat the blade, and shave the limiting ears right off the limiters for full adjustability. That's what I usually do. But some newer stuff isn't as simple as that and not sure what current 395 has for limiters.

Your 395 will not be capable of spinning high enough RPM to endanger itself with those basic mods so long as you are tuned properly.

I put a second large outlet ahead of the factory outlet on my 394 muffler. Sorry about the high gloss paint making it hard to see, it was all I had on hand at that time and it was 2:00 in the morning when I did it. IMG_20170120_024937571.jpg IMG_20170120_024921396.jpg
