@tree monkey if I got a ported 261 over a 362, am I really giving much up?

hard question to answer. I think it will come down to the size of wood and the user. this 241 will out cut a stock 362 up maybe 14" wood with the right user. put it in the hands of a club foot bull and the bigger saw will be better. personally I would buy a 261, but that's just my preference.

Depends on what you're cutting and what else you already have in the arsenal. The 362 will always be more, but if your usually cutting up to 24" trees and already have a 70+ CC saw, then I'd do the 261 as it's already a VERY torqey design. A ported 261 will do much of what a 362 is capable of. I'f I only had a ported MS241, MS261 346xp or 550xp, and then a 70-90cc saw, I'd be ok. Thankfully, I don't have to make that choice as I have 1x 35cc, 3x 50cc, 2x 60cc, 1x 70cc and 1x 90cc saws, not counting the antiques... I'd take a 261 over a 362 anyway as it's tough, the newer models are fairly light and you'll get an amazing amount of cutting done with one before testing its limits.

Nick what other saws are you currently running. You had a 2260, was it stock? Your sig say brokeded what does it need? Scott is also currently a J-Red dealer and might be able to help with that.

Owning a TM-MS261 I want to say just get one but... there are things to consider. I was at the dealer today and was fondling a 441 again. With the 462 a year away I might just get one of those and port it...

To get into it further: I used my ported 2260 with a 24" bar (til it went tits up) for slashing brush, felling and bucking softwood to go to the mill, it sometimes goes in the bucket truck for wood the 201t is overwhelmed by. I like and want another auto tuning saw, be it a auto tuning Husky or Mtronic Stihl to replace it. I was considering going lighter and going with a 261 or a 550 but thinking about it now it probably won't have enough azz.

What say you?

I have lots of saws, just looking to keep with modern saws. What I have:

026, 036 (2), 361, 044, 460 (3), 660 (2)
Jred cs2260 (to be replaced), 562xp.

@GCJenks204
2260 was ported.

My 261 wears a 16" 3/8 bar. I keep meaning to try a 20" and will try to make a point to do it this weekend but have to try and scrounge some wood that size to really test it. I know @Redbull661 ran it with a 20" 3.8 in testing I think with square skip chain.

With that collection and a little bit of fundage I would get the 261 ported from Scott and then send the 562 for porting as well. That will run a 24" no problem.

Gary, forget about the 441. Go ahead and get urself a TM 661.

The 441 is an Arctic. When I bought one last year they brought in 2, the second one is still on the shelf and I can get a good deal on it. I don't really need either... I need to wait until the end of the month when I get my Hybrid from CFB. Realistically it will handle the biggest wood I ever get but with a larger saw I might be able to get bigger wood...

The 044 has a opened up muffler, it was a red lever saw until one of my employees had a log roll on it cracking the original tank. Wears a 440 tank now, 20" and an 8 pin, no port work however. Like I said though, staying with a modern saw with good AV.

@Manofstihl066
I could get a lot of use out of a small saw, like a 241 or 61. Here lately though, I've been feening a 70cc Stihl. I'd like to maybe build one myself, nothing purdy. A sleeper perhaps.

I ran your saw with that setup right here in my driveway Gary. 20" 3/8 Tsumara light bar with half skip square chain. I didn't bury the bar, but we were cutting white oak and that saw would easily pull that setup bucking hardwood all day long. Obviously it's not ported 70cc fast, but for as much as they weigh, the 261 really hauls the mail.

Nick, with the lineup you have, I think a ported 261 would get a lot of use. Especially with a 20" light bar like I ran on Gary's if you like extra reach. Not quite the reach of your 2260 with a 24", and if you get into big wood, you'll find yourself reaching for the 044 sooner, but the whole time you're using the 261, you'll appreciate the weight savings. I know I do when I'm in smaller stuff.
