You’d like it. I’m working on the video now. This is smooth as any 3/8 skip chain I’ve run. With a 661 that’s stingy with oil, 404 063 is a good setup for it.I gotta get me a .404 setup to give it a try. I primarily use 3/8 for convenience and smoothness in the cut.
But I should get a .404 bar and chain for working.
Thanks. I thought about taking the rakers a little lower, but didn’t want to push it too far. LolIncredibly smooth and fast. Very nice!!

I’ve been running 3/8 half skip square a lot lately. This 404 skip feels pretty similar to how smooth and fast it is.A nice 3/8 vs .404 comparison using same piece of wood would be cool.
For smoothness, speed, and general cutting comparison.
Oh yea! I was a full comp only guy for years, I thought nothing else worked in hardwoods. Now half skip square 3/8 is about all I run.Cool. I didn't realize it was skip. I like the semi-skip.
Lots of different chain options these days. Good for all us end-users!!!!
Jeff that log was a beast, I thought it would’ve been more mellow than that. I hear u on the technique, I don’t normally work a saw like that. The whole point of pulling up was for test purposes trying to load the saw as much as possible. The full skip is smooth but not as fast. Might could take the rakers down a bit next time.Looked like fun. Saw ran well, as did all the chain combinations.
Which one felt best to you as far as smoothness goes?
And just me personally, but I am not a big fan of your 2nd cuts. I prefer to go level to slight tip down all the way through if I can. Just me.
But all in all, nice tests. That oak looked marbalized or petrified. Hard.
It certainly put your top plate to the test. If you get 2 tanks of fuel before it needs to be sharpened, you’re doing greatThe whole point of pulling up was for test purposes trying to load the saw as much as possible.
