The tree behind the garage up at the farm has just up and died (has one green branch left). Would like to know what it is as the trunk is pretty stout and methinks it'd be worth milling up into slabs. We thought it was elm, but it doesn't look like any of the elm that grows out in these parts. Bark is flatter, tighter, darker. Whole tree is low, sprawling and massive. Main trunk is only 8-10 ft tall. Our elm are generally much taller and they drop a lotta leaves in the midsummer heat (100+ degrees). This one generally stays green, a rather pretty green at that.

It looks like some kind of elm to me.
