I am shopping for a new trimmer as well. My beloved Robin NB321 I have owned since 2003 is dying. I was decided on Redmax but husky bout them and quality has supposedly gone down. I want around 30cc and will be using blade some. Commercial grade a must. Is Echo the top contender?

Dave.
I would suggest you take a good look at the Makita MM4 line trimmers as well as Echo .They are a true Micro 4 stroke.

It's one of Echos strong suits. And @Onan18 would recommends the 2620.

For day to day trimming the Husqvarna 525Ls/LST is hard to beat and light with good handling. I think the Echo 2620 definitely has more power but I always use the 525’s.

I miss running my Robin NB2001, light and had the power. Needed a new carb, never could find a match for it and the company that imported them is no more. Robin don't even have parts anymore.

I have to admit, my little Echo GT-200R is probably my favorite to use around the yard. It's really light and, being a curved shaft, the debris gets thrown to the right and so less of it ends up on me. It doesnt give up anything to the SRM-225 until you get into the really thick stuff.

Looks like Robin no longer exists, period. The Subaru power website says they exited the OPE business in October. Sad, I was always looking for an excuse to try one of their engines.

I loved mine, straight shaft, light, and had the power. Worked great with a brush blade also.

Very sad Robin is gone. I was told redmax purchased Robin and then was not allowed to use robins engine design due to epa. They tried to redesign but ultimately it was the end of Robin. Redmax was later bought by Husky which in many opinions has led to a lesser quality redmax. I hear Echo is the way to go.

With that being said, I visited my stihl/echo dealer and they strongly recommended me to try to fix my Robin. Said Echo will be good but nothing will compare to what I have if I can fix it. So I am working on the Robin now.

Very nice! I think I'm going to move up to a 266 from my 225 at some point. For just general yard work, I really like the little Echo curve shaft machines. There is a nice GT-2000 on CL right now for $40.00.

The 266 has been replaced by the 2620, I HIGHLY recommend getting a "T" model, the price difference is so little it is almost foolish not to.

If one was to go with the PAS system what is the ratio on that head?

The standard one is 1.7:1 but you can get the Pro Torque attachment that has the same 2:1 reduction as the "T" model.

Does the brush cutter attachment run the 2:1 ratio head too?
