The 171-211 saws have always been a little more likely to give running and component malfunction issue (they also seem to be very cold blooded , even when there a new run in saw) than the 170 and 180 2 mix saws in my experience . That 180 2 mix should be as robust as your 170 old school motor but with that 1/3 hp more.

Yep my ms211 is cold blooded I put that down to it is always getting fresh cool air from that 2nd butterfly coming in around the piston and up out the transfers.

Mine runs good with the mods I did was few years ago now but I did some funky stuff to the intakes opened up the lower transfers even gave it a turbo crank lol
In my mind moding the crank would help get air and mix up the way long transfer ports they are so small in size to like a drinking straw gutting the muffler was a pain I forget what else I did to it but has been reliable. But the trigger master control setup is weak and feels like it could brake somthing at any sec..
This is a turbo crank (out of a 2T bike) I put way more hook on mine.
I've seen dyno runs on 2T mx bikes some pick up power some have a lose in power like a 250 made power a 500 lost power..
Did it work in the 211 well it didn't have a loss in power.
I just like trying different things is just fun for me porting with my basic tools trying new things.

The sort of work you are doing on these motors is a little above my pay grade ..Lol..Its near enough all stock stuff to be ether serviced or repaired for me.
The trigger and master control without a doubt is "Nasty " on the 171-211 saws , not a fan of the carbs they use ether.
I guess your in the sticks and into your dirt bikes judging by the vid.

Well that settles it then... LOL.
There must have been some saws made with the new case and covers with the older 170/180 motor. I suppose depending on emission rules of the time they were still ok to sell in AU.
Your saw has the latest green colour fuel line used.
This is the flag from a 2017 saw that is 2 mix , so nothing like yours. 2015 was when the catalogue shows the new 2 mix model launched here. Can you tell for sure the Yr and place your 180 was made ?

Now that brake flag tag is quite telling. Your saw has no CE mark on it so would suggest its not made for the European market explaining why its not a 2 mix as I would have expected . Add that to the reference to "EPA California 2018 regs" i'm ....Guessing ... its a USA and some other markets saw that could be made in the USA as well. Im just not sure how the product line up differs in the US to Europe. Even in Australia you have/had some Stihl saws not stocked here..ms 380 for a example so it would follow there are differences around the globe.
We would need a Stihl dealer (maybe one on here) with access to there database to be sure of what iv said though.

See the sticker:

It`s a MS 180 Z without 2 Mix. The 2 Mix 180 versions are: MS 180 2 Mix and MS 180 C-BE 2 Mix. These are the 2 (2 Mix versions) that exist.

I found some pics of the mods I did to my ms211 and a vid of it running.
It runs good for what I did to it was few years ago now.
Was just a bit of fun and I only own A Dremal do I know what I'm doing? not really but I like trying different things and it did wake it up and still runs good today.
I've always liked the easy start on this saw has never gave me any trouble.

I'd be interested to know what tree that is as on the vid I can't recognise the bark . Almost looks like Apple box but it's not chunky enough .

Well ...There's no denying... that is the most powerful running 211 I'v ever seen !!
I think your 2T knowledge is paying off when it comes to your experiments on simpler 2 stroke motors.
What is the saw tooth shape thinking on what i assume are transfer ports ?
Engines are just air pumps in my mind I just try getting the air moving and flowing better.
The saw thooth shapes? on the lower transfers there are 4 transfers one in each corner in this saw air flows better over/around lumps and bumps was just trying something different.

Yep that's the *s-word but we also get a hybrid here that is crossed with a red box and that does burn good , not as soft as the Apple Jack
