Honestly, I don't *need* more than one saw (but where's the fun in that?)

Here are runners I have. All are OEM (some with meteor pistons)

064
046 D-Jug
044 10mm
041
MS 391
034
028Super x2 (one of them fully rebuilt)
024 (ugly--loaner saw)
020AVSuper
288XPLite
261/2 XP (262 piston)
Poulan 245A
Poulan 4000 Countervibe
Homelite XL101 (sentimental--was my grandfather's)
Also a Homelite SXL925 that's currently not running. Think it needs bearings
and an 026 (not pro) not running. Just bought, have no idea what it needs (but probably the usual fuel stuf)

Thinking of maybe downsizing to:

046
026
028
020AVS
024 (to remain as loaner)

Thoughts?

I'll store the ones you don't want, in a loving, caring shop with other saws.

Downsizing isn't bad, I had 50 or so, now 25 or so, PD off bills and got a new mower, still more saws then I need. I would keep a 034, 261/62 and a 288 and Grandpa's saw. All those saws are easy to get parts for and readily available too

Just quick run through my head....
Keep 024 (loaner), xl 101 (for obvious reasons), 026 (as said would do about anything 028 would) and then
keep one of:
064 or 288 (covers big saw)
046 or 044 (covers middle)
026 covers small.

Then pick one or two that you just "like"...
Seems you lean toward Stihl a bit...

Easy peezey...

Now to thin my herd...
Runners:
394 ported, 661 stock, 385 ported, 6401/7900 in process...
L-65, 455, 028, 55CP, 50, 350 x4, 550 x3, 026, 200t, 137....not counting any "off brand" saws.
Projects:
066, 576, 038s, 359, 026 x2, 550, 350.... Not sure what else off the top of my head...

Anything you interested in? trade? just want to run?

I've been culling my herd as well. I've made good progress but need to do more. I hope to eventually just have my main line up remaining and then perhaps a few (not 30) project saws.

I was planning on running my MS660 against my 064 with identical bars and chains at the next GTG to see which one had the most grunt. My gut feeling is that the 064 would have won out or at least stayed even.

My advice would be to keep your 064 unless it's too hard for you to start cold. Mine is a gorilla:

Well made.

Yeah--I should have said I'm keeping my Grandpa's saw.

I would (and do) use 046 way more than 064 or 288. If I did keep one that size, it would make marginally more logistical sense to keep the 064, just because I have more bar options in house for Stihl (including a wide-nose 36"). But It's rare I get into wood that a 28" on my 046 wouldn't be able to handle--especially considering I only really cut maybe six times/year for my father in law, friends, whatever.

Leaning towards:

XL101
026 (assuming it'll outrun the better 028--and yeah, it would have to be a turd not to...)
046
064
020AVS (for quick limbing stuff
and the 024 loaner.

Means I have some junk to sell. Now to work up the nerve, lol!

I have downsized over the last few years, down to less than two dozen saws. We're thinking about getting a smaller house and yard, maybe a little less garage space so I may get rid of several items that I've not used in the last ten years...
