Ok this is what I have learned about the ms362c. I am not setting out to bash it. It does have a few good qualities.

    #1 They sell really well.
    #2 Incredibly consistent.
#3 Balance great with a 20". Especially if you want to throw one.
#4 Plug holes strip real easy on them. (Not by myself but fixed for others)
#5 P&C change can be done in 30min or less w/o power tools on a clean saw. (Have had plenty of experience on this one actually lost count)
#6 They sell really well. Or did I say that already.......
#7 Hyway brand cyl runs as well as factory. Although their pistons need some extra clearancing or they WILL hit the crank webs. (Has happed on all four I have used) (staying with oem now)
#8 Timing advance and muff mod help starting, idle and throttle response. But don't do much for power increase.
#9 Av is great. Really softens the impact when it hits the ground.
#10 Tried one for a boat anchor last week when fishing. Is a little light but worked ok.
    #11 Fuel solenoids suck.
#12 I still don't like running them. Have one ugly one I keep on hand to remind me of all the above.

So that's what I have. Honest truth. Wish I could have found the secret that a few guys have. The one that wakes them up. But in all my dinking around I didn't find anything that made a huge gain. I'd love to find it but It's back to work on Monday for me. No more time to play with saws for a while.

I am still running my carbed version, nothing special about it,nothing to rave about. Starts easy, runs fine, pulls a 20" just fine, cuts everything I need in its class. Need a longer bar then use one of my bigger saws til I max out at 60".

This is the most blasphemous thing I've read on OPE forum.

Lol I'll bash it, it's one of the worst saws stihl has ever made. All of the preceding models were much stronger and not as complex.

I have the carb version 362, really like it. Ran it stock for several years with 25" bar, did fine. Just had @huskihl do a few tricks to it. It's a different saw now.

361 to 362 but no convert. I'll bash it why knot.
Mine is modded with adjust screws, base gasket deleted, one holed muff, timing tipped, non HD filter work saw. Handles a twenty with eight pin or twenty four with seven if it is a long walk. Balances nicer with a twenty four than my treesixone. Zero complains really.
The same thing done to my 361 is a high winding nasty piece of work you might have thought was ported. Plus it is better balanced and lighter. The 361 AV can be better and mine is. The 362 has more bottom end but lacks rpm to limb fast imo.

The 362II is a betterer, lighter an a more capable saw than my version one saw given the same mods. That said "my" 362 still feels like a lump of *s-word in my hand with an 18" 8p. Your mileage may vary.

Update the solenoid valve to the newer white one on existing carburetors with originally a black valve. Use the update kit 1140 007 1802, including the new pickup body 0000 350 3518 (orange), and white solenoid valve 0000 120 5104. (Usable for C1Q-S235, C1Q-100357 carburetors, the newer ones already have the updated parts) After installation, don`t forget to recalibrate.

I thought you only had to do the calibration if you swapped coils ?

I've put white solenoids in the 261s and 362s with that orange fuel filter and they run perfect with no calibration.

The 362c used to be a perfect 2 saw plan with the 044.

    What the hell happened ?????

Yep. Been there a few dozen times. Something that shouldn't be needed or should be more reasonably priced for a consumable item. They fail super easy and often. Anything makes it past the filter and they are usually toast. I will usually replace the fuel line at the same time as the solenoid. A rotten or gummy fuel line will toast the new solenoid in a hurry.

Never had a regular carbed 362. Would definitely be my choice. Going to try and convert one to non mtronic this fall/winter.

Almost 100 bucks for a white solenoid at my dealer..they sure are proud on em'

It says STIHL on it so it's clearly the best.

Buy the kit with the filter. It's half the cost. Pn# 1140 007 1802. Unless it's a regional thing.
