That bark looks suspicious..

Last tree I cut like that was in a yard in Springfield.
It was a liquid Amber tree.
Popular shade tree, but drops those spiked balls every year.

Dadgummit, I can't get a good wiff of it from here........
HA! I trimmed two of the rounds to fit in my splitter. Grabbed a pile of the chips and took the torch to em, hard to get em smoking green even that small. Smelled like Hickory smoke, that or burnt concrete?

I appreciate the help in this thread, not many folks around that can ID trees. My FIL knows most of em, but that Kentucky Coffee and this Bitternut Hickory (?) He couldn't ID. Hopefully other members can get some miles from this thread as well.

Gum tree?

This was on a creek bank, roots exposed and one good rain from washing out. If all else fails, it's good and hard.

Looks like ash, tulip poplar branches more, bark on poplar is a little smoother than ash
